Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe Are Reportedly Distant Cousins, According to New Genealogy Study

A new genealogy study from MyHeritage says Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are ninth cousins, once removed. The connection traces back through their fathers to Ezra Perry, a settler who lived in Sandwich, Massachusetts in the 1600s. Both family lines run through him, which is how researchers linked two of Hollywood’s most talked-about blondes across four centuries.

The timing of the discovery is interesting, because Sweeney has been compared to Monroe for years and has leaned into it. She wore a vintage Ceil Chapman dress that Monroe previously wore on a 1952 Life magazine cover, and reports say her boyfriend, Scooter Braun, calls her the modern Marilyn Monroe. Add the new family tree connection, and the comparisons are only going to get louder.

Keep in mind these genealogy studies are more trivia than destiny. Ninth cousins once removed share a very distant ancestor, so this isn’t exactly a family reunion situation. Still, it’s a fun pop culture footnote linking a current A-lister to one of the most enduring icons in Hollywood history.

So what do you think? Does the family tree revelation change how you see the Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe comparisons, or is it just a fun coincidence?
