Ebro Ahmed was on a break outside Ya Bricks Snacks and Tobacco in St. Paul’s Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood when a Battle Creek Middle School bus rolled past with its doors open and the driver appearing to have a seizure. The 27-year-old ran after the bus, jumped through the open doors while it was still moving, and pulled the parking brake. Eighteen students were on board.

Ahmed called police and stayed with the driver, keeping him from choking or hitting his head until paramedics arrived. The store’s surveillance camera captured the entire rescue. Ahmed, who is Eritrean-American, has no medical training and credits watching Grey’s Anatomy for helping him stay calm under pressure. He later received a $1,000 reward and said he’d do it all again, even if it cost him his life.

It’s the kind of story that makes you wonder what you’d do in that moment: freeze, film, or run. Eighteen families know exactly what Ahmed chose. If you were outside that store, would you have chased the bus? Tell us on our socials.
