Texas has spoken, and apparently we like our Halloween candy sour. An Innerbody Research study analyzing Google search interest found Sour Punch Straws are the most-searched candy in the state for the second year in a row. SweeTarts posted the biggest jump in searches heading into the season, which suggests a lot of folks are stocking up early.
Nationally, Sour Patch Kids rank first, followed by Skittles, Snickers, Starburst and Twix. Candy corn, the most argued-about candy in America, surges to second place nationwide during the three weeks before Halloween. Despite our reputation, Texas ranks only 31st among states for candy search interest, with Utah taking the top spot and Pennsylvania tied to Reese’s and Hershey’s Kisses.
So what ends up in your bowl this year? With Fort Sill families, neighbors and church trunk-or-treats all stocking up, the local candy aisle is about to get competitive. Whether you’re a sour loyalist or a chocolate purist, the kids on your block will let you know soon enough.
What’s the one candy you’re handing out this Halloween, and what’s the one you secretly hope nobody gives your kids?
