Soundgarden fans finally got the payoff they were waiting for. The band just released official pro-shot footage of their NFL Kickoff Halftime Show at Seattle’s Lumen Field, the same performance NBC chose not to air during its live broadcast of the Seahawks-Patriots game back on September 9th. Viewers flooded social media with complaints at the time, and now everyone can see what they missed.
The video shows surviving members Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd performing alongside Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless on vocals and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready on guitar. Momsen powered through“Outshined”and“Spoonman,”with Seattle’s Blue Thunder drumline joining for the latter. Most of the band wore Seahawks jerseys, adding a hometown touch to the whole thing.
On top of the video release, anticipation is building for a new Soundgarden album featuring vocals Chris Cornell recorded before his death in 2017. Matt Cameron said in July that recording was finished and mixing was underway. It would be the band’s first new record in over a decade.
