Sombr is done with the nepo baby accusations. In a new ELLE interview, the 21-year-old, whose real name is Shane Michael Boose, pushed back on claims that his father’s career helped him land a record deal, calling the suggestion“incredibly insane.”His dad, Andy Boose, is an events producer for HIV/AIDS organisations, and his mom, Bennah Serfaty, works in HIV/AIDS prevention. Not exactly a shortcut to a major label.

His actual come-up is well documented. He grew up in New York, trained as a classical singer at LaGuardia High School, and uploaded“Caroline”to TikTok in 2022. That momentum led to a Warner Records signing at 16. Later,“Back To Friends”and“Undressed”from his August 2025 debut album“I Barely Know Her”turned him into a festival-stage staple, and he’s since earned a shoutout from Taylor Swift, who called him“the future”during her Songwriters Hall Of Fame induction speech.
