Universal Pictures just locked in the official release date for the highly anticipated Snoop Dogg biopic titled“Snoop,”and it’s coming August 6, 2027. The studio assembled an all-star creative team that actually understands hip-hop cinema. Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss will play the West Coast legend in the lead role, while legendary director Craig Brewer, known for his work on Hustle&Flow and Dolemite Is My Name, will helm the project. Producer Brian Grazer, who produced the iconic 8 Mile, is also attached alongside Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures President Sara Ramaker.
This is a massive deal because it marks the first film under Universal’s overall deal with Death Row Pictures, Snoop’s own production company. That partnership signals serious commitment to bringing hip-hop stories to Hollywood audiences in an authentic, major-studio way. Brewer’s track record with music biopics is stellar, and with Grazer’s involvement, the project has the resources and expertise to do Snoop’s legendary career justice. The cast, crew, and production setup suggest fans are in for something special.
Beyond the biopic, Snoop’s also diving into horror territory with director Eli Roth on a film called Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!, which is filming this summer. The man’s clearly thinking bigger than just music right now. With the biopic coming in 2027 and these other projects in motion, Snoop’s expanding his entertainment footprint across multiple genres. What part of Snoop’s story are you most excited to see on screen?
