Slayyyter stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers and finally explained where her name comes from, and the answer is pure’90s cinema. Her stage name traces back to Ron Slater, the stoner character Rory Cochrane played in Richard Linklater’s 1993 cult classic Dazed and Confused. She even admitted she had a crush on him in high school.“I thought he was so cool,”she told Seth.

The timing couldn’t be better, because her career is heating up fast.“Brand New Chanel$”just became her first Billboard Hot 100 entry, landing at No. 98, while this year’s WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200. She also wrapped the North American leg of her tour with sold-out shows in New York City and a Spotify event in Brooklyn.
