Slayyyter is in the middle of a familiar internet cycle: old posts resurfacing, a fanbase dividing, and a career moment colliding with controversy. Posts from her teenage years containing racial slurs were shared again this week through a Camila Cabello fan page, putting the spotlight back on an apology she first gave back in January 2020. At the time, she said she wrote the posts at 15, took full accountability, and pledged donations to Black LGBTQ+ charities.

This time around, the singer allegedly addressed the backlash on her private Twitter/X account, saying everyone is trying to“re-cancel”her over“high school days”behavior and asking why people want to see her fail so bad. The response got screenshotted by Instagram user @andrewramdat.reels and spread quickly, with fans splitting between those defending her growth and those who feel the accountability isn’t landing.

All of this comes during a tough stretch for Slayyyter. Her third album, Wor$t Girl In America, arrived in March, and she recently canceled her remaining 2026 UK and European tour dates because of laryngitis and vocal cord tears. The debate it raises is one the internet keeps having: how long should someone’s teenage posts follow them, and what does a real apology look like? Where do you land on it?
