Serena Williams has officially joined the Barbie Signature lineup, and the doll is a tribute to one of her most memorable championship moments. Mattel recreated her 2005 Australian Open look, the green-and-white outfit with the cutout top and mesh detailing, complete with a white skirt, sweatband, socks, and shoes. That tournament marked her seventh major singles title, making the doll a genuine piece of tennis history.
The set retails for $45 and includes a tennis racket, tennis ball, doll stand, and certificate of authenticity. It became available October 8 through Mattel Creations, Target, and other major retailers, timed to International Day of the Girl. Earlier this year Barbie created a one-of-a-kind Role Model doll for Williams, and now fans can finally get their own.
There’s a meaningful charitable layer here too. Barbie’s Dream Gap Project is donating to Mrs. Rina’s House of Blessings, a Martin County, Florida organization that supports children and families facing housing instability. Williams said she hopes young girls who see the doll recognize possibility in themselves. Which begs the question: which sports legend should get the Barbie treatment next?
