Sabrina Carpenter is officially heading back to the big screen, and she’s doing it in style. The pop star has been cast as Ginger Rogers in Sony Pictures’upcoming Fred Astaire biopic, starring Tom Holland as the legendary dancer himself. Margaret Qualley rounds out the trio as Adele Astaire, Fred’s older sister and his original dance partner before Ginger ever came along.
The film is being directed by Paul King, the filmmaker behind Paddington and Wonka, and it’s based on Kathleen Riley’s biography The Astaires: Fred&Adele. The story dives into the brother-sister duo who conquered Broadway and the West End in the 1910s and’20s, right up until Adele retired from performing in 1932 to start a family. The project has been in development since Holland first confirmed his involvement back in 2021.
What’s got fans especially hyped is Holland’s commitment to the craft. He’s said he wants to perform every dance himself with no doubles, shooting each routine in a single continuous take, the way Fred Astaire would have done it. For Carpenter, this marks her first feature film role since 2022. The movie doesn’t have a title or release date yet, but the buzz is already building.
