Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley Join Tom Holland's Fred Astaire Biopic

Tom Holland has been attached to play Fred Astaire since 2021, and the film just got a whole lot shinier. Sabrina Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers, Astaire’s Oscar-winning dance partner, while Margaret Qualley takes on the role of Adele Astaire, Fred’s big sister and his first partner on the Broadway stage. Paul King, the director behind Wonka and Paddington, is at the helm.

For Carpenter, this marks a major return to acting after her Disney Channel days and her rise to pop stardom. Qualley, meanwhile, gets to bring Adele Astaire back into the conversation. Adele was a Broadway sensation in her own right, but no footage of her dancing survives, which makes this film a rare chance to tell a story that history nearly forgot. Fred Astaire’s 84-year-old daughter, Ava Astaire McKenzie, is supporting the project, a sign that it’s being handled with care.
