Roseanne Barr Secretly Shot a New Sitcom Called "Meemaw" and Nobody Will Air It Yet

Roseanne Barr didn’t wait for Hollywood’s blessing this time. Eight years after ABC fired her, the comedian quietly raised private money and shot eight episodes of a new sitcom called“Meemaw”in Austin, Texas. The cast is stacked with familiar faces: Randy Quaid plays her on-screen husband, Drea de Matteo plays her daughter, Omar Gooding plays her son-in-law, and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe appears as Satan. The show is semi-autobiographical, following a liberal East Coast Jewish woman who moves to Texas.

The catch? No network or streaming service has signed on to distribute it. Barr says the show makes fun of everyone, from Republicans to woke family members, and she’s calling it every bit as revolutionary as her original hit sitcom. For now, a full season exists with nowhere to watch it, which makes this one of the strangest standoffs in TV right now.

So the ball is in the industry’s court. Somebody could grab it and ride the inevitable buzz, or it could sit on a shelf forever while everyone argues about it online. Either way, the conversation is already happening. Would you actually watch“Meemaw”if a streamer picked it up tomorrow?
