Rosalía Says U2's Song Dedication Is 'Mind-Blowing' After Bono Texted Her for Spanish Help

Rosalía had one of those weeks that sounds made up. U2 dedicated a brand-new song called“The Mirror Maker”to her on their upcoming album Carnaval De Luz, and the way it happened is even wilder than the dedication itself. Bono apparently texted her directly to ask whether certain words worked in Spanish for the track. One of them, it turns out, wasn’t even a real word, so Rosalía gave him permission to invent his own language when Spanish didn’t have what he needed.

She told the whole story on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night, visibly stunned while talking about it. Rosalía admitted she doesn’t actually know Bono, which makes the whole thing feel like a fever dream, and she called the shout-out“insane”and“mind-blowing.”She also remembered singing“With Or Without You”as a kid, so hearing her name attached to a U2 song hit completely differently. Fallon turned her pronunciation tips into a running bit, because of course he did.

Beyond the U2 news, she’s gearing up to perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend with host Shane Gillis, and she shared a story about getting turned away from Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem because it was full. Her reaction became the quote of the week:“God said‘no,’but my outfit said‘yes.'”Which Rosalía moment are you more excited about, the SNL performance or the U2 song?
