Rosalía Says Bono Texted Her for Spanish Help on U2's Song About Her — And They've Never Met

Rosalía stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and shared a story that sounds made up but is very real. Bono reached out by text asking for help with the Spanish lyrics on a U2 song called“The Mirror Maker (Rosalía).”The song is about her. The two have never met in person.

The detail everyone is talking about: one of the Spanish words Bono wrote doesn’t actually exist. Rosalía’s advice was simple.“I don’t know, but feel free to invent your own language.”She described the whole experience as mind-blowing and called Bono a legend. The track began as a 2017 Edge demo inspired by Fela Kuti, and Bono has said the song celebrates Rosalía as an extraordinary artist.

The timing is wild, because Rosalía has new music landing from three directions. She’s on Fontaines D.C.’s“Dopamine Chamber”on October 16, she’s the musical guest on SNL’s October 10 episode with host Shane Gillis, and U2’s“Carnaval De Luz”arrives November 13. So which one are you streaming first?
