Flea has spent 25 years building something bigger than any album: the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, the nonprofit school he co-founded in 2001 to fill the gaps left by L.A. public school music cuts. Now the school is celebrating its quarter-century mark with a benefit concert at the Hollywood Palladium on Oct. 17, and the lineup is absurd in the best way. The Red Hot Chili Peppers headline, with Dave Grohl, Vince Staples and comedian Marc Maron also set to perform.
The numbers behind the night tell the real story. The Conservatory teaches more than 1,000 students every week and provides scholarships to over 200 kids through free lessons, instruments and supplies. The benefit is aiming to raise around $1.5 million for the school’s programming. Flea announced the show on Instagram, writing,“Come celebrate a quarter century of The Silverlake Conservatory Of Music! Yeeeeeeeah! Proceeds of course all go to the non-profit school.”
