Twenty-five years ago, Rachel Uchitel lost her fiancé, Andy O’Grady, in the September 11 attacks. He was a managing director at Sandler O’Neill, working on the 104th floor of Tower 2. They met in 1998, got engaged in August 2001, and he was just 32 when he died.

At the time, Uchitel was a producer at Bloomberg. She spoke with him by phone that morning, then watched his building collapse from her own newsroom. She later ran to Bellevue Hospital after hearing he might have survived. The photo of her holding his missing person flyer became one of the most recognizable images of 9/11 grief, and it appears in the memorial video she shared for the anniversary.

Now 51 and hosting a podcast, Uchitel wrote that the loss changed who she is, and that it was the honor of her life to have been loved by him. How do you keep the memory of someone you’ve lost alive? Tell us in the comments.
