The royal kids have a school last name, and it’s not Mountbatten-Windsor or anything close. According to Hello! magazine, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis go by George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales at school, borrowing their parents’titles the same way generations of royals have.
Before 2022, the siblings were known as Cambridge at school, a nod to William and Kate’s former titles as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. When Queen Elizabeth II died that September, William and Kate became the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the kids’school surname changed with them. William and Harry did the exact same thing growing up: William Wales and Harry Wales.
This year looks a little different for the family. George, 13, just started his first year at Eton College, William’s alma mater, and his parents walked him in on day one in the rain. Charlotte, 11, and Louis, 8, remain at Lambrook Prep School. It’s a rare glimpse into how the young royals balance tradition with something that feels like a normal school experience — though as one insider put it, George’s biggest challenge won’t be academics or making friends, but balancing his privacy with the reality that every classmate has TikTok.
