Porsha Williams is opening up about a health battle she kept mostly private for years. In a new essay for Glamour, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed she had an emergency hysterectomy after doctors discovered more than 15 large fibroids along with endometriosis.
The road there was long. Porsha’s fibroid issues began at age 30 while she was trying to have her first child. She experienced a miscarriage at four months, had a myomectomy to remove fibroids, and dealt with them returning during her pregnancy with daughter Pilar, now 7. After her divorce and mounting stress, a specialist recommended a hysterectomy. During surgery, doctors removed 21 fibroids total, the largest the size of a cantaloupe. She kept her ovaries but lost her uterus.
Porsha says the surgery saved her life and improved her quality of life 100 percent, easing migraines and improving her iron levels. She also pushed back on the stigma around hysterectomies, saying it can feel like society sees you as less of a woman without your uterus. Her story is a reminder that fibroids are common, rarely discussed, and worth taking seriously.
