Polaris has released“Without You,”their first new song since guitarist Ryan Siew died in 2023. The track arrived Sept. 3 and works as both a tribute to Siew and a first step forward for the four remaining members, who chose to keep touring rather than go on hiatus.

The band’s 2023 album“Fatalism”was recorded with Siew and became their first Australian No. 1. Guitarist Rick Schneider has called Siew irreplaceable, while drummer Daniel Furnari described releasing the new song as bittersweet and cathartic after years of figuring out how to honor their loss through music. More new music is in progress, but the band isn’t rushing a new album.

This December, Polaris will be the highest-billed Australian act at Good Things Festival, playing Melbourne on Dec. 4, Sydney on Dec. 5 and Brisbane on Dec. 6. It’s a full-circle moment for a band that started lower on these lineups.
