Pete Davidson is telling his story in his own words. In a new interview with Variety, the comedian and actor detailed what his daily life looked like before rehab: cooking his own ketamine, plus acid, shrooms, whippets, weed, and pills, every single day. He described the point where it stopped being fun, saying,“It got scary because I didn’t feel high. I felt high when I wasn’t doing it.”
The breaking point arrived in summer 2023, right after he finished filming his Peacock series Bupkis and about a year after he left SNL. Davidson walked away from the show even though it had been renewed for a second season. He credits a FaceTime call from his mother, Amy, for pushing him to get sober and enter treatment.
Today he says he’s sober and has about four beers a year, though weed was the hardest thing to give up. He also became a dad in December 2025, welcoming daughter Scottie with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, and says fatherhood makes staying clean easier. What part of his story hits closest to home for you?
