Oklahoma Has $260 Million in Unclaimed Life Insurance. Here's How to Check If Any Is Yours

The Oklahoma Insurance Department has matched consumers with more than $260 million in life insurance and annuity benefits through its Life Insurance Policy Locator since 2017. More than 13,000 Oklahomans have submitted search requests, and the state has already recovered over $40 million in 2026. Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready says the goal is helping families connect with benefits that are rightfully theirs, especially when old paperwork and missing policies make that feel impossible.

The locator is free and hosted by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. You submit a request for a deceased loved one, and if a match turns up, the insurance company contacts you directly. Searches can take 90 business days or more. Nationally, the same tool has received over 1.5 million requests and produced more than 780,000 matches totaling over $16 billion, which tells you how common lost policies really are.
