Nick Reiner’s legal team and the trustees of his family’s $1.5 million trust are trying to work out a settlement, and both sides are scheduled for mediation on December 16. At a Friday probate hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court, trustee lawyers asked a judge to approve $300 for Nick’s jail commissary account. The judge declined to rule and set a return date of March 17, 2027, no matter what happens in mediation.

Nick, 33, is jailed without bail on charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. He has pleaded not guilty. His attorneys argue he should be able to access his trust under the presumption of innocence, writing that he“still has not been able to access even $5 from his trust to buy basic subsistence items.”California’s Slayer Statute, which prevents someone from profiting from a killing they’re accused of, complicates any payout. Trustee lawyer Laurianne Wright said she’s“optimistic”a deal can be reached.

Reports also note no contact from Nick’s brother and aunt, adding a family layer to the legal fight. The case continues to draw eyes because it mixes Hollywood history, a courtroom drama, and big questions about money and innocence. What angle grabs you most — the trust fight, the commissary request, or the Slayer Statute debate? Drop a comment and let us know.
