My Chemical Romance is marking 20 years of The Black Parade with a short film, and the voice cast is a pop culture crossover dream. Prelude to The End comes from visual artist Lauren Tsai and her studio UNREAL INC., blending imagery from her project The Dying World with the album’s opening track,“The End.”
Tsai voices the lead character, Astrid, while Billie Eilish plays her friend, Phoebe Bridgers voices her sister, Hideo Kojima appears as a teacher, and John C. McGinley takes on the role of school dean. Tsai called working on the project an absolute dream, and the collaboration has been a long time coming for fans of her visual work.
