Cold and flu season has officially spawned its wildest trend of the year. Lactating moms across the country are adding their own breast milk to family recipes, from Funfetti cupcakes to mac-and-cheese to“immunity pancakes.”Camille Smith, a 33-year-old mom of four from Dallas, went viral for baking breast milk into cupcakes for her sick kids, and dozens of other moms have followed with videos of their own.

The theory behind it is that breast milk carries antibodies, so mixing it into meals could give the whole household a natural immunity boost. The CDC has other thoughts. The agency warns that heat from ovens and microwaves can destroy some of the nutrients in breast milk, meaning that immunity boost might not make it through the baking process. The moms pushing the trend say they know what works for their families.

The comment sections have turned into a full-on culture war, with“liquid gold”fans on one side and“eww”on the other. The viral quotes keep coming too, including“Breast milk cures everything”and“And the best part of this plan is, no one can stop me.”

So we have to ask: would you eat a breast-milk cupcake if it was handed to you? Tell us in the comments.
