Miranda Lambert has released her 11th studio album,Crisco, and it comes with a collaboration fans have been waiting for. Ella Langley joins her on a track called“Snakeskin Boots,”the follow-up to their first team-up,“Butterfly Season,”from Langley’s albumDandelion. The two have been in each other’s orbit for years now, and this song is the payoff.

The backstory makes it even better. Langley approached Lambert at the ACMs roughly five years ago and told her she wanted her to produce her record. That pitch turned into a co-produced album, and eventually“Choosin’Texas,”the single they co-produced that became the longest-running Number One on the Billboard Hot 100. Lambert spotted the talent early, and the results speak for themselves.

As for the sound onCrisco, it is not your standard country record. The album leans into a Seventies dance-floor vibe, and Rolling Stone compared its bold direction to Dolly Parton’s 1978 classicHeartbreaker. That is a big comparison, and it raises a fun question: is disco-country the next wave, or just a Lambert experiment? Which track offCriscoare you playing first?
