Mike Flanagan has made no secret of his love for Stephen King, and now he’s saying out loud what fans have been hoping for: he wants to adapt“The Dark Tower.”The horror creator behind“The Haunting of Hill House”and“Midnight Mass”says he’s already written scripts for the epic series, and both he and King are eager to get it on screen. The only obstacle? Legal issues that are still holding up an official green light.
If you remember the 2017“Dark Tower”film starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, you know why fans are cautious. It landed a brutal 16% score on Rotten Tomatoes and left the book series’massive following underwhelmed. Flanagan’s track record with King material, including“Doctor Sleep”and“Gerald’s Game,”has fans convinced he’s the right person to finally crack it.
Flanagan also named“Revival”and“Hearts in Atlantis”as other dream King adaptations, and his new“Carrie”series arrives October 7 on Prime Video. So while the legal limbo plays out, at least there’s plenty of Flanagan horror to stream in the meantime.
