Michael Douglas’s new memoir“One Helluva Ride”is out today, and it is already generating headlines. In the book, Douglas writes about a 1990 Golden Globes party where, after too many drinks, he threatened Julia Roberts with a Golden Globe. Roberts was filming“Flatliners,”which Douglas was producing, and he had brought his 13-year-old son Cameron to the party. According to Douglas, he saw Roberts nuzzle his son and reacted badly, telling her to take her hands off his son and take that Golden Globe and stick it where the sun don’t shine.
Douglas writes that he crossed a line with the most in-demand young actress in Hollywood at the time. Sober, he sent roses and apologized in person to Roberts and her then-fiancé Kiefer Sutherland. Sutherland forgave him and completed the film, and the two stayed friends. Roberts and Douglas did not remain close. The memoir also details an affair with Kathleen Turner during“Romancing the Stone,”which ended when Douglas’s wife confronted Turner on set. Douglas has since been open about his sobriety and entered rehab for alcohol and substance abuse.
The book is part confession, part behind-the-scenes time capsule, and it has people talking about how much celebrities should really share. What is the wildest celebrity memoir story you have ever read? Tell us in the comments.
