Michael Douglas’new memoir“One Helluva Ride”is nearly 500 pages long, but one chapter is hitting readers harder than the rest. In it, Douglas writes about the bond he shared with the late Rob Reiner, the director behind“The American President,”and the painful thing they had in common: both men had sons battling serious drug addiction.
Douglas describes their conversations as a“heartbreaking confessional,”writing,“We both had sons with serious drug issues and we both, at times, had been at the end of our rope.”Douglas’son Cameron, 47, served seven years in federal prison. Reiner’s son Nick is now charged with two counts of murder after Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood home in December 2025. Nick has pleaded not guilty.
The memoir, out Tuesday, also covers Douglas’decades in Hollywood and a secret relationship with Kathleen Turner during filming of“Romancing the Stone.”But it’s the chapter about two famous fathers finding comfort in each other that’s really resonating. Have you ever leaned on someone who understood exactly what you were going through?
