Michael Douglas has a new memoir coming out called“One Helluva Ride,”and it’s already delivering exactly what that title promises. In the book, Douglas says he and Kathleen Turner had an affair while filming 1984’s“Romancing the Stone,”a rumor Turner publicly shut down for decades in interviews with Larry King, Good Morning America, and the Los Angeles Times.
Douglas writes that the two became friends, then co-stars, then lovers, and that they invented a cover story together to protect his then-wife Diandra Luker and their son Cameron. The affair reportedly ended when Luker visited the set in Mexico and confronted Turner directly. Douglas and Luker divorced in 2000, and he later married Catherine Zeta-Jones.
So the actor who spent years hearing his co-star say“never happened”is now the one saying it absolutely did. That’s a lot for fans of the film to process, and it also raises a bigger question about how Hollywood controls its own stories.
Do you think celebrities owe fans the truth about their private lives, or should some things just stay off the record?
