Mel Brooks didn’t wait for the Spaceballs sequel’s official start date to get in front of the camera. According to Daphne Zuniga, who returns as Princess Vespa, the 100-year-old comedy legend shot his Yogurt scenes before principal photography began, and it was his own idea. His pitch to the filmmakers:“You better film me now because I’m 100.”They filmed him.

“Spaceballs: The New One”is directed by Josh Greenbaum and brings back Zuniga alongside Brooks, with Keke Palmer, Josh Gad and Lewis Pullman joining the cast. Gad co-wrote and produced the film and has praised Brooks’energy and comedic form. The sequel to Brooks’1987 sci-fi parody is expected in theaters April 23, 2027.

Zuniga called Brooks“so effortlessly funny and so unbelievably brilliant.”A century old, still working, still the funniest person in the room. Which classic 80s movie would you want to see get a sequel with its original star? Tell us in the comments.
