Maya Hawke is out here giving Taylor Swift the literary treatment. During her Hot Ones appearance posted Thursday, Oct. 22, she named“But Daddy I Love Him”and“Betty”as Swift tracks that deserve a spot in an American poetry anthology, saying they tell a full story like epic poetry and avoid clichés entirely.
She didn’t stop there. Hawke praised Eminem for keeping a“f— you”attitude toward the industry, arguing that the arts have lost some of that rebellious edge. She even said she listens to Em when she needs to feel free from seeking approval, which is a refreshingly honest thing to admit for an artist whose album Maitreya Corso dropped in May.
It all adds up to a fun pop culture moment: Hawke is a longtime Swift fan who previously helped connect Taylor with her dad, Ethan Hawke, for the“Fortnight”music video. So which Swift song would you nominate for the poetry hall of fame? Let us know in the comments.
