Kara Keough is giving fans an honest look at her mom Jeana Keough’s cancer fight, and it’s not an easy update. The Real Housewives of Orange County alum, 71, was diagnosed with tongue cancer in July and completed radiation in August after going through chemo and radiation. According to Kara, her mom is still not getting nutrition orally, eating maybe a few bites before getting frustrated with the effort and the lack of taste.

Kara told Page Six that her mother sleeps a lot and deals with coughing fits that cause vomiting, and she even said she thinks Jeana sometimes wishes she hadn’t done any treatment at all. It’s a candid glimpse at the harsh side of cancer treatment that rarely makes the highlight reel. The family set up a GoFundMe in July to help with medical expenses, and Jeana’s sons Shane and Colton have been supporting her alongside Kara throughout.

Reality TV fans have watched the Keough family for years, and this chapter is a reminder that the people we know from the screen go through real, painful things off camera. Have you ever cared for a family member during cancer treatment? Tell us your story in the comments.
