ABBA fans in Australia finally get their own dinner-and-disco moment. Björn Ulvaeus is bringing Mamma Mia! The Party to the Sydney Event Centre at The Star in March 2027, the first Australian run for the immersive theatrical dining experience. Guests eat Mediterranean cuisine inside a recreated version of the Greek taverna from the Mamma Mia! film, on the island of Skopelos, while 20 musicians and performers work through ABBA’s catalogue. The night wraps with a 1970s-style disco.

Sydney is only the third city to host the show, joining Stockholm, now in its tenth year, and London, in its seventh. Between them, those productions have staged more than 1,500 performances for 700,000 diners. There’s also a tidy full-circle story in the credits: producer Paul Dainty, president and CEO of TEG Dainty, promoted ABBA’s first and only Australian tour back in 1977. The new production is executive produced by Ulvaeus and Pophouse Entertainment with TEG Dainty.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, November 12, and a waitlist is open now at mammamiatheparty.com.au. Given how deeply ABBA is stitched into Australian pop culture, from Muriel’s Wedding to every Bjorn Again show ever booked, this one is likely to move fast. So, which ABBA song has to be played or the whole night is ruined for you?
