Madonna Wins Big at 2026 MTV VMAs as Taylor Swift Makes History With First-Ever Honor

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards belonged to Madonna. She came into Sunday night’s show at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles with 13 nominations, the most of any artist, and left with three wins: artist of the year, best dance for her“Confessions II”short film, and best collaboration for“Bring Your Love”with Sabrina Carpenter. Snoop Dogg hosted the ceremony.

Taylor Swift wasn’t far behind. She won video of the year for“The Fate of Ophelia”and became the first-ever recipient of the Artist Director Honors, a brand-new award introduced this year. She also closed the show with that video of the year win. Other big winners included LISA for best pop, Sienna Spiro for best new artist, and Nirvana, who received the Video Vanguard Award.

Between Madonna’s dominance, Taylor’s historic first, and Nirvana getting a Video Vanguard nod in 2026, this year’s VMAs gave fans plenty to talk about. The nominations race alone was stacked, with Madonna at 13 and Taylor at 11, and the wins played out exactly as dramatically as expected.
