Madonna and Charli xcx Team Up for "Danceteria Afterhours" and It's a Club Culture Masterclass

Madonna and Charli xcx have joined forces for“Danceteria Afterhours,”a new version of the track from Madonna’s July album Confessions II. The collab gives fans a rare double dose of club culture history, with Madonna recounting her early New York nights at the famed Danceteria alongside figures like Debi Mazar and Basquiat, while Charli xcx adds verses about her own coming-of-age in London’s club scene, including her first DJ gig at just 15 and 2015 trips to Los Angeles with producers A.G. Cook and SOPHIE.

The release follows the Kylie Minogue-featuring“Afterhours”version of“Love Sensation,”continuing Madonna’s pattern of reworking Confessions II tracks with guest artists. Confessions II debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after its July 3 release, marking Madonna’s first chart-topping album of the 2020s. The timing couldn’t be better, as Madonna is set to open the 2026 MTV VMAs on September 27, her first performance at the show in 23 years, where she also leads all nominees with 11 nominations.

Charli’s contribution brings a distinctly modern energy to the track, with lyrics that reference her teenage years navigating London’s underground scene and her creative partnerships with Cook and the late SOPHIE.
