Mackenzie Edwards has been granted temporary custody of the two children she shares with ex-husband Ryan Edwards. A Tennessee judge ruled on September 4 that the kids remain in Mackenzie’s care after she filed an emergency petition to modify their parenting plan. In the filing, her attorneys said she has a good-faith belief that Ryan relapsed into substance abuse, specifically kratom, which Tennessee banned in July.
Under the new order, Ryan may only see the children at his parents’home, supervised by Jen and Larry Edwards, and he cannot drive or transport them. His wife, Amanda Conner, is also barred from supervising, transporting or being alone with the children. The judge additionally ordered Ryan to have his fingernails clipped and tested at a facility for the longest supported lookback period. Ryan’s side has publicly maintained he’s doing well, with a recent quote saying he’s close to a year sober.
The former couple split in February 2023 after six years of marriage, and an August 2025 agreement had given Mackenzie 225 days a year with the children and Ryan 140. This latest ruling is temporary while the case moves forward.
