Lubbock ISD employees are learning that their Social Security numbers, email addresses, and home addresses were exposed in a data breach at Frontline Education, a third-party company the district uses. The incident happened on August 14th, and Frontline says it discovered and fixed the problem the very next day. The district, however, says it wasn’t notified until October 6th, more than seven weeks after the fact.
There is one piece of good news for families: Frontline confirmed that no student information was exposed. The company is partnering with TransUnion to provide two years of credit monitoring for affected individuals and will begin notifying people directly on October 26th. A dedicated hotline is available at 833-516-8792, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time.
For school employees everywhere, this is a reminder to stay proactive about your personal data. Check your credit reports, consider a freeze if you’re concerned, and never assume a notification will come quickly. Lubbock ISD says it will release additional updates as necessary. Have you ever dealt with a data breach affecting your own information? Tell us how you handled it in the comments.
