Locktober Explained: The Month-Long Chastity Challenge Taking Over October

Forget spooky season for a second. October has another identity in a fast-growing corner of the internet: Locktober, a month-long chastity challenge where participants wear a cage that prevents full erections and sex, often while a dominant partner holds the key. It started in kink and BDSM communities, but it’s crossing over in a big way. Clips4Sale named chastity its 2025 Fetish of the Year after content sales surged 71%, and cage maker KINK3D, where devices run upwards of $220, reports customers split evenly between gay and straight.

The appeal isn’t repression, according to the people who do it. KINK3D founder Dan Berman says chastity actually intensifies sexuality, and participants describe heightened arousal, extended foreplay, stronger communication, and a genuine test of willpower. For many gay men, the cage doubles as a fashion piece and a signal in hookup culture. For straight couples, it’s often a way to re-center women’s pleasure and shake up the usual power dynamic.

There’s one big caveat: even Berman says don’t wear it all 31 days straight. Breaks for hygiene and sleep matter. So whether you’re curious, skeptical, or just here for the discourse, Locktober is officially a thing.

Would you ever hand over the key for a month, or is that a hard pass? Let us know in the comments.
