Lily Brant, the 21-year-old daughter of supermodel Stephanie Seymour, walked her first runway for Alaïa at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday, stepping onto the same catwalk that made her mother a star in the 1980s. But this debut was years in the making. Brant interned at the fashion house for two summers as a teenager and grew up close to the late designer Azzedine Alaïa, who she affectionately called“Papa.”

The family connection runs deep. Alaïa designed Seymour’s 1995 wedding gown and even gave her away at the ceremony. Brant remembers him as“the sweetest presence”who treated her like family. So when she finally walked for the house, it wasn’t just a career milestone. It was personal.

Seymour’s pre-show advice was classic supermodel wisdom: practice walking in heels on a treadmill, and channel a confident character on the runway, a trick she used herself back in the day. Brant is a Ford Models signee studying film and business in St. Louis, so this runway moment is just the beginning. What’s your favorite mother-daughter moment in pop culture?
