Lil Nas X has released“World’s Greatest,”his first new single in over a year and a half, and it comes with a story that makes the song hit even harder. In June, he revealed that he spent months in rehab for mental health support after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Rather than shy away from that chapter, he built his comeback around it.

The track is an Atlanta bounce record with lyrics about resilience, family, and rising from poverty, including references to sharing a bed with his siblings growing up. The video, filmed in Atlanta by director Phillip Youmans, blends childhood flashbacks with a voicemail from his late mother, Tamikia Hill, encouraging him to never give up. She passed away in August, and the video ends with a dedication to her.

“World’s Greatest”is his first major release since 2021’s“Montero,”which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Fans have flooded social media with their own mental health stories since the drop. What do you think of Lil Nas X’s new era?
