The Lawton Farmers Market is the place to be on Saturday, Nov. 7, when the City of Lawton and United Way of Southwest Oklahoma host the sixth annual Chili&Cornbread Cookoff from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contestants can enter chili for $20 or cornbread for $5, but organizers are capping the field at 30, and registration closes Nov. 2. Rules and signup are available at lawtonok.gov.
Not cooking? Show up hungry. Admission is $10 per person and includes samples plus a People’s Choice vote, with extra votes available for $1 each. Cash prizes go to the Judges’Choice and People’s Choice chili winners at $50 apiece and the Judges’Choice cornbread winner at $25. If you want a say in who takes home the bragging rights, this is the cheapest vote you’ll cast all year.
