If Thursday night’s severe weather left your yard looking like a timber yard exploded, the City of Lawton wants you to know you’re not on your own—and they’re making cleanup easier.

City Manager John Ratliff announced Saturday that residents in Area 4 who weathered the storm can toss tree limbs and storm-related debris at the curb right now, even though their regular bulk collection week doesn’t start until June 22. Normally you’d face a citation for that kind of early placement, but the city is making an exception for storm damage. The catch? This grace period applies only to trees and branches knocked down by the weather—not your old furniture or other bulk waste.

To really take the pressure off, the city’s also rolling out temporary drop-off locations starting June 15. Two roll-off dumpsters will be available each day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McMahon Park (near the intersection of Southwest 38th Street and Lee Boulevard) and at the east parking lot of MacArthur High School at 4400 East Gore Boulevard. City staff will be on hand to make sure only storm-related tree debris gets dumped—no household trash, furniture, appliances, or construction materials sneaking in.

Here’s the thing worth noting: this program is exclusively for City of Lawton residential customers. If you’re running a business, these dumpsters aren’t for you. And whether you use the drop-offs or haul debris to the curb early, the city’s asking residents to properly secure and tarp all loads before hitting the road. It’s not just about keeping your truck clean—it’s about keeping debris from becoming a hazard for other drivers.

If neither option works for you, you can always transport storm debris directly to the City of Lawton Landfill. The city’s being flexible here because they know cleanup after severe weather is no joke, and they’re asking for patience as the community works through the aftermath together.
