October in Lawton starts fast. Trail of Fear Scream Park opens Oct. 2 in Medicine Park, running 13 nights of haunted attractions and ghost tours through the season. If you have been looking for an excuse to head into the Wichitas after dark, this is it.
The same weekend brings the first of two Oktoberfests. Fort Sill MWR hosts theirs Oct. 2 at the Patriot Club with a keg tapping and the Polkameister, then the Comanche County Fairgrounds takes over Oct. 9-10 with German music, food, and a costume contest. Festival of the Wichitas is Oct. 3, and Park-O-Treat is Oct. 10, so the family calendar fills up early.
The last two weeks of the month belong to trunk-or-treats and fall festivals across town, leading to the main event. Lawton’s citywide trick-or-treating is 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Costumes on, porch lights ready, candy bowls stocked.
