A shots-fired call in Lawton last June ended with a federal prison sentence handed down this March. Steven Lynn England, 44, who has ties to both Lawton and Elgin, was sentenced to 108 months, nine years, plus three years supervised release, for unlawful possession of firearms as a previously convicted felon. Officers who responded to the June 6, 2025 disturbance found England arguing with a woman, then discovered a loaded 9mm pistol equipped with a machinegun conversion device, a sawed-off shotgun, seven silencers, and a homemade explosive at the residence.

England pleaded guilty on Oct. 13, 2025, and was sentenced March 5, 2026. His case was prosecuted as part of Operation 922, a federal initiative focused on domestic violence and firearms enforcement. Court records show a 2015 narcotics conviction in Comanche County, and he still faces pending Comanche County charges from March 2025 for fentanyl trafficking and methamphetamine possession.

For Lawton and Elgin residents, the case is a reminder of what a routine disturbance call can uncover. A machinegun conversion device can turn an ordinary handgun into a fully automatic weapon, and silencers and homemade explosives raise the stakes even further. Federal prosecutors say the sentence reflects how seriously these cases are treated, especially when they involve domestic situations. What do you think: does a nine-year federal sentence match the severity of what was found? Sound off in the comments.
