A routine attempt to stop a stolen vehicle near the Lowe’s garden center on Cache Road turned into a short pursuit Friday afternoon, ending when the driver crashed into a stopped SUV. Lawton police arrested 31-year-old Kenneth Blaine Nobles at the scene. He was charged Monday with endangering others while eluding police and possession of a stolen vehicle, and he’s being held on $100,000 bond.

What makes this case stand out is the record behind it. Nobles was on probation for a 2014 first-degree manslaughter plea and had failed to report to his probation officer. He was also facing pending charges from July for fentanyl trafficking and assault with a dangerous weapon. A probation violation report was issued October 20, just days before the pursuit.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2027. No serious injuries were reported in the crash. As the case moves through the courts, the question hanging over it is one plenty of Lawton residents are already asking: how did someone with this record end up behind the wheel of a stolen SUV, running through one of the busiest retail stretches in town?

What do you think needs to change about how probation violations are handled in Comanche County? Let us know.
