The City of Lawton’s Community Cleanout returns Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, and this year residents have two places to bring their unwanted items. The Lawton Public Library serves as the donation drop-off, collecting gently used blankets, coats, hygiene items, toys, work wear, costumes, craft supplies, instruments, and medical equipment for local nonprofits to distribute based on community need. The FISTA parking lot handles bulk waste, including appliances, furniture, TVs, carpet, yard waste, cleaners, fuels, paints, batteries, tires without rims, and small office electronics.
New for this year’s event is document shredding along with recycling for e-waste, flattened cardboard, and plastics #1 and #2. Not everything can be accepted, though. Construction debris, bricks, concrete, specialty or dealership tires, ammunition, smoke detectors, latex paint, liquid medications, glass, and scrap metal will be turned away, so it’s worth sorting your load before you leave the house.
