KPop Demon Hunters has officially spent 61 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Soundtracks chart, tying it for the second-longest run in the chart’s history. The only soundtrack ahead of it is Moana, which holds the record at 62 weeks. Out of 65 total weeks on the chart, KPop Demon Hunters has been No. 1 for all but four of them, with Wicked: For Good, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Charli xcx’s Wuthering Heights, and Heated Rivalry being the only projects to briefly take the top spot.
The chart launched in 2001, so pre-2001 giants like Saturday Night Fever and Purple Rain aren’t in the running, but the list of soundtracks with 25 or more weeks at No. 1 is still stacked. The top five are all animated films, and Lin-Manuel Miranda appears twice with Moana and Encanto. A Star Is Born and Barbie: The Album also made the cut. Meanwhile,“Golden”from KPop Demon Hunters topped the Hot 100 for eight nonconsecutive weeks and took home the Oscar for Best Original Song, so this run isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
With just one week separating KPop Demon Hunters from the all-time record, all eyes are on next week’s chart. Will the soundtrack make history, or will Moana hold on to the crown? Let us know which soundtrack you’d put on repeat forever.
