Kim Kardashian is opening up about parenting a teenager who already has a career. In a new interview with the Sunday Times, Kim said she has to“hold back”North, 13, from taking every project that comes her way, because North only wants“forward-facing”work. That means cameras, stages, covers. Everything, all at once.
The receipts back it up. North released her EP“N0rth4evr”in May, covered Dazed magazine’s September issue, and canceled a 14-stop tour with Molly Santana in July just days before the first show. Last month she played her first solo concert at Chicago’s Vic Theatre, where both Kim and ex-husband Kanye West showed up and sat separately. Kim described herself as an“intermediate-strict parent,”and said she and Kanye agree on what North takes on.
North’s own take adds a wrinkle. She has said her worst advice was waiting to start her music career, which suggests she thinks she’s behind, not ahead. So who’s right here: the mom pacing things out or the kid ready to sprint?
What would you do if your 13-year-old wanted to go all in on a career? Tell us in the comments.
