The timing is what makes this more than a cute costume. People have spent months criticizing North’s edgy style online, with some even calling it“demonic.”North addressed it on TikTok Live, saying she’s not demonic and clarifying that her piercings are clip-on. She also asked people not to judge a book by its cover. Kim putting on the exact look feels like a response without a single word of defense.

Strip away the wigs and it’s a pretty normal mom instinct: back your kid, maybe with a little humor and a little petty. North is 13 and figuring out her style in front of millions of opinions she never asked for. The costume lands as a joke, sure, but it’s also a pretty public“she’s fine, leave her alone.”
