Kevin Hart’s legal fight with his former assistant just took a turn back to 2017. Miesha Shakes, who worked for Hart’s company from August 2017 to October 2020, wants Montia Sabbag to testify in the lawsuit Hart filed against her. Sabbag is the woman at the center of Hart’s 2017 sex tape scandal, and her possible testimony could pull old headlines right back into a current courtroom.

Hart sued Shakes in December 2023, accusing her of defamation and breaching her non-disclosure agreement after she discussed his private life in an interview with blogger Tasha K. Shakes isn’t backing down. She argues the NDA is invalid because Hart failed to meet his obligations, and she says his reputation was already damaged by his own conduct, pointing to the 2017 recording scandal. Hart denies her claims, and in June 2026 he asked a judge to order Shakes to pay $50,000 under the agreement’s damages provision.

One thing worth remembering: Sabbag sued Hart in 2019 claiming he recorded their encounter without consent, but that case was dismissed, and no court ever ruled on whether her claims were true. The current lawsuit is still ongoing, and it’s unclear whether Sabbag will actually take the stand. Do you think she should testify, or should this stay between Hart and Shakes?
